John Karnes
Chief Financial Officer
John assumed the role of Chief Financial Officer at Clarity in December 2023, where he oversees the company’s accounting, finance, and legal functions. With over 20 years of CFO leadership experience, John brings deep expertise in SaaS and technology-enabled services, particularly within the insurance industry. His focus areas include electronic records, data exchange, privacy, cyber security, and compliance.
Throughout his career, John has held CFO roles in diverse settings, ranging from private equity-financed organizations like Vertafore (insurance software solutions) and Ontellus (medical record data exchange and retrieval) to publicly traded companies like KiOR (renewable fuels technology) and Mariner Energy (deepwater exploration technologies). Prior to joining Clarity, he served as CFO of Quarterhill, a prominent provider of SaaS solutions and data interchange technologies in the toll road industry.
Earlier in his career, John practiced law with Kirkland & Ellis, representing private equity, venture capital, and other clients in various mergers and acquisitions, IPOs, bank financing, and capital markets transactions. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from The University of Texas School of Business and a Juris Doctor from Southern Methodist University School of Law.
